Just as we were looking at the business
potential of co-branded cards
, Barclaycard and Walmart’s
UK-subsidiary Asda have confirmed there is a case for co-branding
with the launch of a corporate trade card.

The Asda Trade Card links SMEs to a single
account and offers up to 56 days of interest free credit,
Barclaycard’s full online account management systems to track
spending in real-time and gives access to VAT reporting for certain
merchants.

Dennis Bauer, managing director, Barclaycard
Commercial Payments, said:

“Barclaycard’s technology will allow Asda’s
business customers the visibility and flexibility they need to
manage their cash flow more effectively.

“Companies conducting business with Asda will
no longer need to rely solely on cash, business cheques or personal
credit cards to make supply purchases.”

Katie Walley from Asda Financial Services said
that organisations such as nurseries, care homes and local councils
make low value, but high volume purchases at Asda.

But they lack a payment method to track
spending and purchasing, she said and added that this corporate
co-brand card would “take the hassle out of these regular
transactions and enable businesses to become more efficient and
cost effective.”
