Mobike, a smart bike-sharing company, and MasterCard have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to support Singapore’s drive towards digitalisation of its transport payments ecosystem.
As part of collaboration, Mobike will integrate MasterCard digital payment solution Masterpass into its mobile application that will allow riders to make quick and secure in-app payments.
Additionally, the partnership will bring real insights into the way urban residents travel, and enable local city planners to examine Singapore’s transportation systems and how they can be made smarter and more flexible.
The Mobike app is available for download at Android store and Apple app store. Users can also register for Masterpass at masterpass.com. Upon integration, riders will be able to synchronise their Mobike accounts with Masterpass for easier, secure payment.
Mobike head of international expansion Florian Bohnert said: “We actively seek strategic partners that share our vision of creating transport solutions of tomorrow.
“Mobike’s partnership with MasterCard will bring us a step forward in fulfilling Singapore’s vision to build an even more connected, efficient, and environmentally friendly city.”
MasterCard senior vice president of digital payments and labs for Asia Pacific region Benjamin Gilbey said: “The essence of Masterpass is to remove friction from the payment process so that paying becomes as easy as the push of one button.
“By combining payment, ticketing and mobile technology, we are bringing about greater time, cost and operational savings, which ultimately lead to an improved travel experience for commuters.”
