What are the card fraud rates in France? Or Spain?

Now, the answer to this question will be both easily available and accessible as FICO has introduced an interactive fraud map of Europe.

Users can click on particular countries on the map for detailed analysis of card payment frauds from 2006 – 2011 in 21 European countries.

The map features five categories: counterfeit fraud, card stolen and ID theft, card not present, card stolen/lost in post.

“Payment card fraud in Europe increased after 2006, peaking in 2008,” said Martin Warwick, principal consultant and fraud chief for FICO in EMEA.

“However, 2011 levels are still high, at €121m more than in 2006. A notable exception is the UK, which accounted for 45% of the total in 2006 and now accounts for 29%, a reduction of €177m. Criminals have shifted their focus to new opportunities within Europe, as anti-fraud measures in the UK become stricter.”
