Groupon has launched a rewards programme.

The Groupon Rewards programmes requires
consumers to spend a certain amount with a particular merchant
before they receive a reward from the business.

The rewards programme was launched during the
week when the Durbin Amendments – which banks claimed forced them
to drop debit card rewards programme and, in many cases, also
introduce debit card or current account charges – take effect.

Jeff Holden, senior vice president of product
at Groupon said:

“There’s no cumbersome check in process; just
pay with your normal credit or debit card and Rewards works behind
the scenes.”

The programme is hoped to drive loyalty at
local businesses and increase transaction values.
