Mobile operator Orange and Barclaycard,
the UK’s largest acquirer, have launched the first android
device with embedded NFC contactless payment technology
in the UK.
Orange Samsung Galaxy SIII will work in
combination with a Barclaycard app. After linking their credit or
debit cards, users will be able to make payments under GBP20
(USD32) by tapping their phones on Quick Tap contactless network
readers.

Simeon Bird, director of propositions at
Orange UK, said: “We are really excited to be launching Quick Tap
payments on one of the most popular smartphones of the year. We are
pleased to be the first network brand in the UK to offer its
customers such an innovative service.”
Card networks and mobile operators are
progressively joining forces to provide contactless mobile payment
options, with Orange and Barclaycard leading the way in the UK.
The companies rolled out Quick Tap, the first
NFC payment network in the country in May 2011.
Earlier this year, Barclaycard also launched a
stick-on sensor card, PayTag, that can be attached onto any mobile
phone to turn it into a contactless payment device.
