Telefónica Digital and Research In Motion
(RIM) are collaborating on a pilot mobile wallet for Blackberry
devices.

This comes after Telefónica and RIM recently
announced a trial of their NFC-based payment and identity card
system – Telefónica Wallet for Blackberry.

350 employees from Telefónica’s Madrid-based
headquarters are taking part.

Those involved in the trial will be able to
make payments by taping their NFC-enabled Blackberry smartphone
against a reader.

Matthew Key, CEO of Telefónica Digital said:
“We are getting ever closer to the point where our customers will
be able to take the contents of their wallets and put them on their
mobiles.

“Trials such as this are important to ensuring
a great customer experience and we look forward to seeing the
launch of commercial wallet services in several markets next
year.”
