German supermarket ALDI Nord has extended its partnership with Fiserv to enable in-store card payments in the country.

The move comes after last week ALDI Nord decided to transfer its entire in-store acquiring volume in Germany to a new provider for its customers.

Initially, the card payments at ALDI’s supermarket locations in Germany were processed via TeleCash from First Data GmbH.

Now, Fiserv has begun processing the payments at over 2,250 ALDI Nord locations in the country.

Fiserv head of EMEA John Gibbons said: “With Fiserv, ALDI Nord is enabling a seamless commerce experience across payment channels, and empowering ALDI customers to make purchases in the way they prefer.”

ALDI Nord has been a client of Fiserv for more than 15 years.

The company leverage Fiserv’s Network Service Provider (NSP) services for routing and switching payment transactions.

Last year in November, ALDI Nord selected Fiserv as the preferred partner to power its global launch as well as ALDI liefert – the first online ordering capability for home delivery.

ALDI Nord head of finance Sven Schulze said: “Fiserv is a trusted, proven provider in the payments industry, and when we were faced with sudden market changes, we knew we could turn to them for our acquiring needs.

“The excellent cooperation between our companies enabled us to pivot to a new in-store card payment solution with impressive speed, and do so without any disruption to our business.”
