Bitcoin exchange Bitfinex has joined forces with digital payment processing company Blade Payments to offer real-time bitcoin debit cards to its customers.

Cardholders can withdraw from their Bitfinex accounts at ATMs and make purchases from both online merchants as well as physical stores.

The cards will support bitcoin payments by allowing the use of the card without preloading a fiat currency. Instead, cardholders will be allowed to hold only bitcoin and convert the amount at the point of sale for making a purchase.

This is in sharp contrast to most of the existing debit cards that require the user to sell their bitcoin into fiat currencies before making a withdrawal.

The card, available exclusively on the Bitfinex website, will be offered to select customers across Asia and Europe in the coming months.
