Eurobank, a Serbian financial institution with over 900,000 clients, has scored a regional sponsorship deal with Premier League club Manchester United.

Under the terms of the deal, Eurobank has become the first bank in Europe to team up with Manchester United for payment cards.

Eurobank will have the exclusive right to market official Manchester United credit cards to the club’s estimated 1.2m followers in the country.

The deal with the club, one of the world’s most famous sports teams, shows the bank is really keeping its eye on the ball in terms of marketing.

Philippos Karamanolis, president of the executive board of Eurobank, acknowledged Manchester United’s global recognition in selecting it as a partner for co-branded cards.

Philippos said: "We are very proud to associate Eurobank Serbia with Manchester United, one of the top brands in the world, with which we share many common values.

"We are also extremely happy because this is the first such partnership launched in Europe, which is a great honour for both Serbia and our Bank," he added.

Richard Arnold, managing director of Manchester United Group, commented: "I’m delighted that Eurobank are announcing these co-branded payment cards as part of our new partnership with the bank."

"With 1.2m followers in this country, Manchester United already has a strong following in Serbia and we hope this new partnership with Eurobank will help this burgeoning following grow even larger," he concluded.

Manchester United’s current club captain is Nemanja Vidic, a Serbian who has played for the Premier League club since 2006.

Based in Belgrade, Eurobank is a subsidiary of Greek financial services provider Eurobank Ergasias.
