Japanese JCB has opened its first branch in
the Middle East, from which it will continue its card issuing and
merchant acquiring business for the region.

JCB will develop licensed partners in the
region and Africa.

Takao Kawanishi, president and CEO of the
Japanese payment brand, called the launch of the Dubai-branch “a
remarkable step” and part of the company’s expansion strategy.

“I am confident that the number of JCB
licensee partners will increase significantly boosting our existing
merchant network and cardmember base in the region,” Kawanishi
said.

JCB has been present in the Middle East since
1987 and has deals with Mashreq Bank and National Bank of Abu
Dhabi.

The Middle East is a growing market for the
cards sector.
