Japanese card issuer JCB has tapped fintech Soft Space to launch the Tap on Mobile programme.

The solution intends to cash in on the wide availability of Android smartphones with near-field communication (NFC) for contactless payments.

JCB will utilise the expertise gained through Soft Space’s Fasstap solution, an NFC-enabled payment solution with PIN verification.

Soft Space has developed the Tap on Mobile programme by incorporating JCB’s contactless kernel – which powers contactless transactions.

Soft Space’s technological expertise has led to creating a payments solution that meets JCB’s necessary standards and approvals to ensure secure payments, the card issuer said.

The programme is said to be secure and interoperable based on EMV and PCI standards.
