Danish lender Jyske Bank has inked a four-year agreement with augmented identity technology provider IDEMIA to provide recycled plastic payments cards for the first time.

As part of the bank’s environmental commitments, Jyske Bank will offer recycled PVC cards to its customers in Denmark.

The move is in line with its vision ‘Make a difference’ (Gør en forskel).

Jyske Bank will leverage IDEMIA’s eco-friendly initiative GREENPAY to mitigate its impact on the environment.

Made with more than 85% recycled PVC derived from production wastes, IDEMIA’s GREENPAY card enables responsible use of resources without compromising on quality or security.

Using recycled plastics reduces CO2 emission in the environment and offers several benefits.

For Jyske Bank, this will reduce the creation of thousands of tons of first-use PVC payment cards.

The new payment card has been made available to the bank’s employees since November last year.

Jyske Bank CEO Anders Dam said: “We are continuously looking for business partners and suppliers who can help us make a difference to our clients and as regards the bank’s direct and indirect carbon footprint.

“IDEMIA is driven by a strong vision in this area, and we have high hopes of our co-operation.”

IDEMIA EVP of financial institutions Amanda Gourbault said: “We are proud to accompany Jyske Bank on the path to delivering a sustainable payment experience to their customers with the first recycled plastic payment card in Denmark.

“We are excited to be able to accompany them in their eco-friendly strategy and look forward to continuing to supporting them with new and exciting products and services.

“With the recent expansions to our GREENPAY offer, this new partnership now widens the opportunities for a greener payment industry.”

Earlier this month, IDEMIA teamed up with Indian lender IndusInd Bank to introduce its first metal credit card.

Last month, IDEMIA received the ICCN security certificate from EMVCo for the next generation of biometric card secure chip.
