Mastercard has forged a partnership with SBI Cards & Payments Services, the credit card business of Indian government-owned State Bank of India (SBI).

Under this partnership, Mastercard has launched contactless payments on the SBI Card mobile app.

The app will use Mastercard Digital Enablement Service (MDES), a tokenisation platform of Mastercard, to tokenise the users’ payment credentials.

This tokenisation-enabled payment feature removes the need for consumers to share their actual card details with merchants.

Cardholders can register their card on the latest version of SBI Card app to enable the contactless payment service.

As a result, SBI Card Mastercard cardholders no longer have to carry their physical card with them.
