Mastercard is reportedly encouraging its employees to start returning to its offices in New York, who were working remotely due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Bloomberg reported.

The payments giant is joining other big companies in the area to bring staff back to offices after months of work from home.

Mastercard is ensuring social distancing by rearranging its workspaces, the report added.

In an email, Mastercard spokesman Seth Eisen said that the company is also performing temperature checks and providing contact-tracing services to its employees.

He added that the corporate culture and the process of onboarding new employees will benefit from face-to-face interactions through this move.

Eisen said: “Finding the right way to reach that end-stage is what we are doing by encouraging our people to come back to the office, with appropriate precautions, so that we can keep our business moving forward.”

Mastercard has joined Goldman Sachs Group and JPMorgan Chase to increase the number of employees working in offices.

Mastercard CEO Ajay Banga also signed a letter to the New York City (NYC) Mayor Bill de Blasio.

He argued that workers will return to offices slowly unless the city eases concerns about their communities’ “security and the livability”.

Banga was one of 160 business leaders who also inked similar letters to the NYC Mayor.

Mastercard employs nearly 18,600 people around the world. The company has promised to increase its footprint in NYC by three-fold.

Mastercard is set to hire nearly 500 employees by 2024, according to Bloomberg.
