Mastercard is set to hire 1,500 employees in Dublin over the next three to five years by launching a new campus in Leopardstown.

Plans are on to hire software engineers and developers with expertise in artificial intelligence, cyber security, and blockchain.

In 2008, Mastercard launched its first Dublin outpost, which is now home to its European technology hub.

The Dublin outpost also serves as the global base of Mastercard Labs – the firm’s research and development arm.

At launch, the Dublin location had an employee headcount of 36, a number that has currently increased to more than 650.

Mastercard president of Operations and Technology Ed McLaughlin said: “Our Dublin Tech Hub is an innovation engine for our company across Europe and beyond, and we’re delighted to be expanding our technology footprint in the city.
