Mobile Merchant has joined forces with UnionPay International (UPI) to help SMEs in South Africa gain access to more customers utilising the latter’s cardholder base worldwide.

The partnership will see Mobile Merchant’s entire merchant base accept UnionPay cards.

Mobile Merchant’s mobile terminal solutions enables SMEs to open to business in three to five days from application approval to installation.

UnionPay cards are issued in more than ten countries across Africa. Among these countries are Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ghana, South Africa, Madagascar and Mauritius.

In September last year, UnionPay International partnered with Interswitch East Africa (Kenya) to accelerate payment digitalisation across Africa.

The agreement sees Interswitch serving as a third-party service provider (TPSP) for UnionPay International in East Africa.
