Malaysia-based RHB Bank has partnered with IDEMIA, an augmented identity technology provider, to launch payment cards made out of recycled plastic.

The new card is in line with the bank’s efforts to boost its commitment towards conservation and environmental sustainability of the marine ecosystem.

The eco-friendly RHB Bank debit card will be issued in collaboration with NGO WWF-Malaysia and Visa.

Dubbed ‘RHB Visa WWF Debit Card-i’, the new debit card is claimed to be the first eco-friendly recycled PVC payment card in the Asia Pacific region.

The ISO-certified and EMV compliant eco-friendly cards will be made available to new and existing RHB customers in Malaysia from July 2020.

RHB Islamic bank managing director Dato Ali said: “Our new recycled plastic card is our way of contributing directly to the conservation of ocean life through partnering with IDEMIA and global affiliated NGOs such as WWF-Malaysia.

Last week, Spain’s BBVA partnered with IDEMIA to roll out payment card made of recycled plastic.
