SIA and Unicocampania are set to transform how users pay for public transport across the Campania region. In particular, passengers will be able to use contactless to buy tickets in Naples, Salerno, Avellino and their respective provinces.

Trials will start in the second half of 2020. Moreover, the SIA and Unicocampania partnership covers both contactless credit and debit cards.

The service is based on SIA’s technology infrastructure. Specifically, this will connect all terminals where cards can be swiped to access public transport in the Campania region.

The advanced features support the development of Smart Mobility. This will allow the management, authorisation, accounting and reporting of payment transactions. At the same time, users will benefit from the best available tariff based on the number of trips made.

SIA and Unicocampania: enabling credit cards to act as season tickets

In addition, thanks to SIA’s infrastructure it will be possible to use one’s credit card as if it were a season ticket.

Consequently, customers who buy their season ticket online with a contactless credit card can use the same card for travel.

“The Unicocampania Consortium has, since its inception, been a pioneer in tariff integration. That pioneering spirit is still present today. The Consortium is preparing to face a new challenge, that of EMV,” says Gaetano Ratto, chair of Unicocampania.

Eugenio Tornaghi, Director of Marketing & Sales, SIA adds: “Thanks to SIA’s technology, Campania will be the first Italian region to adopt an integrated public transport digital payment system.

“Soon Naples and all other main Campania municipalities will enter the ranks of big cities like Milan, Venice and Rome. They are using our platform to digitise millions of tickets.

In this way e-payments are becoming an increasing part of citizens’ daily life and the standard alternative to cash.
