UnionPay International has partnered with French bank La Banque Postale to expand the acceptance of its cards across the country, with focus on tourist attractions and public transportation.

Under the alliance, the partners intend to facilitate Chinese tourists to use UnionPay cards at 37,000 merchants and 7,600 ATMs of the bank within next year.

The move enables 80% of ATMs across France to accept UnionPay cards, compared to the existing 70%. Currently, more than 200,000 local merchants accept the company’s cards.

The collaboration will also facilitate UnionPay acceptance at 8,500 post offices, nearly 10,000 taxis along with airport shuttle buses in Paris, and various transport, supermarkets and cultural establishments.

“UnionPay cardholders visiting France can enjoy abundant card-using privileges and offers in accommodation, catering, entertainment and shopping. Cardholders can enjoy privileges including room upgrade and free gifts at Pullman and Sofitel hotels. They may get free drinks at local feature restaurants like Carte Blanche and Le Lumiere. When paying a certain amount with UnionPay cards at the Paris Regional Tourist Information Center, cardholders can get a ticket to the Louvre,” UnionPay said in a statement.

UnionPay plans to further strengthen its local card acceptance network in order to better cater to the increasing payment demands of travellers.
