Biometric technology company Zwipe has collaborated with Silkways Card & Printing (Silkcard) to offer biometric payment cards in Bangladesh.

The partnership will see Zwipe offering the Zwipe Pay ONE technology platform and guidance to EMV certified smart card manufacturer and personalisation bureau Silkcard.

The aim is to enable Silkcard to manufacture as well as personalise biometric card payments for issuer clients.

Silkcard offers various cards to banking and retail customers in Bangladesh and overseas.

On a yearly basis, the firm delivers more than 12 million payment cards.

Zwipe CEO André Løvestam has welcomed the alliance, saying that Bangladesh represents significant growth potential from security, financial inclusion and innovation aspects with an economy growing over 7% annually and a population of over 166 million.

“Together with Silkcard we will bring next-generation contactless payment cards in this fast-growing market,” Løvestam noted.

Furthermore, the two parties will work alongside to commercialise biometric payment solutions in Bangladesh.

They will support banks across all phases of pilot, launch and mass market launch.

Silkcard managing director Sk Farid Ahmed said: “Biometric Payment Cards is a high-impact initiative and the future of contactless payments, lifting safety and convenience to a completely new level for our issuer customers and consumers alike. We see Zwipe Pay ONE as the state-of-the-art technology on biometric payment cards and look forward to a close collaboration with Zwipe.”

Last month, Indian payment processor Financial Software and Systems (FSS) entered into an alliance with Zwipe to offer contactless payment cards.

In April this year, Zwipe struck a strategic business partnership with telecom and fintech solution provider Masterline.

The collaboration will work to expedite the deployment of the Zwipe Pay ONE platform in India and key Middle East and Africa (MEA) markets.
